‘Ozil’s problem is that he had problems with everyone’ Former Arsenal teammate slams German midfielder

Mesut Ozil’s former Arsenal teammate Nacho Monreal has slammed Mesut Ozil in a recent interview, claiming that the German ‘had problems with everyone’ while at Arsenal.

Monreal, now playing for Real Sociedad in homeland Spain, spent six and a half years at Arsenal, racking up over 250 appearances for the Gunners in the process. All of these came with Ozil also at the club, the German talisman having joined six months after the fullback.

However, in a recent interview with FourFourTwo, Monreal spared his teammate no ire as he ripped into the German playmaker and his inability to get on with others at the club.

‘Ozil’s problem is that he had problems with everyone,” Monreal told the magazine. ‘It ended badly with Wenger, he didn’t play the last few games with him, then Emery tried to bring him back and make him our leader.’

‘To begin with, he gave him a lot of confidence and Mesut played a lot, but the coach understood there were other teammates who were in better condition. Ozil was one of the best players in the team, one of the best paid, but they saw he wasn’t at the level required. ‘

‘As a person, he was good with everyone, but he also missed a lot of games through injury.’

History repeats itself as Ozil frozen out

It seems as though falling out with managers is not just confined to the mercurial magician’s time in north London, either, with new side Fenerbahce revealing that they had excluded him from the squad earlier in the week.

In a statement on social media, the club explained:

‘Our first team Football players Mesut Özil and Ozan Tufan were excluded from the squad it has been decided.’

A common theme is now emerging towards the end of the German’s storied career.
