Michael Chandler has issued a plea to Conor McGregor for the two to fight this summer following the American’s bout with Tony Ferguson next month.

Chandler, who was last seen in action at UFC 268 in November last year, said that he aimed to fight the Irishman in July.

McGregor, who has spent some time away from the octagon in recent times, has been mooting a return for a while now and is believed to be interested in Chandler’s offer.

Ahead of his fight against Ferguson next month, Chandler is already looking ahead to what would come next and suggested the draw of a bout against McGregor would be too good an offer to turn down.

He told MMAFighting: ‘It’s one that I’m interested in. I want the Conor fight just for the magnitude of the moment. Stepping inside the octagon and doing something monumental by fighting him.’

He added: ‘Having all of the mixed martial arts eyeballs, eyeballs all across the world [on you]. You don’t get a bigger platform than fighting Conor McGregor.

‘So that’s what I would love to happen if I don’t get the title shot.’

Regarding when he might be able to take up the fight against McGregor, Chandler said that July or August would give him enough time to recover from his bout with Ferguson.

He said: ‘July [or] August works great for me. I will go out there and beat Tony in May, have a little time to recover, then go back into training camp for a July, August fight.

‘The timing works out perfect. I think I’m a great guy for Conor if he comes back and doesn’t get a title shot. He’s going to have to go through somebody to get a title shot, I think I’m the perfect guy.’

Chandler has been vying for a fight with McGregor for a while now, with the American back in November 2021 issuing a call to the Irishman for them to meet.
